The 2016 Toyota Fortuner will be launched in Malaysia alongside its Hilux sibling in the near future, but before that happens, let’s take a closer look at this Philippines-spec Fortuner.
Pictured below is the base 4×2 G diesel manual Toyota Fortuner, powered by a 2GD-FTV 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel that produces 147 hp at 3,400 rpm and 400 Nm from 1,600 rpm till 2,000 rpm. This is the sole variant to offer a six-speed manual transmission. The Fortuner comes equipped with an 80-litre fuel tank.
Outside, the entry-level diesel Fortuner gets regular halogen projector headlights, front foglights, chrome grille, LED type tail lights, body-coloured door handles, body-coloured wing mirrors with turn indicators, roof rails, rear spoiler and side steps. The Fortuner 4×2 G diesel gets 17-inch alloy wheels all round.
Moving inside, this Fortuner gets fabric upholstery, fabric door trim with silver accents, chrome door handles, front and rear door pockets, leather multifunction steering wheel with audio and Multi Info Display (MID) switches, tilt and telescopic steering, illumination glove box, leather shift knob, Drive Model Select with Eco and Power Mode Switch and 10 cup holders. The 6.5-inch capacitive touchscreen infotainment system features a CD player, FM tuner, AUX,USB, iPod and Bluetooth Connectivity. GPS navigation is also available.
Furthermore, the Toyota Fortuner gets driver side one touch power window with anti-pinch, speed-sensing auto door lock, power adjustable wing mirrors, manual seat adjustments for driver and passenger seats, 4.2″ color TFT display for the MID and three 12-volt power outlets.
In terms of safety, the minimum airbag count of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner is three, including a driver knee airbag. ABS with EBD is present, though Stability Control, Active Traction Control, Hill-start Assist Control, Trailer Sway Control, Brake Assist are only reserved for the range-topping Fortuner 4×4 V.
Prices of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner starts from P1,386,000 (RM116,034) for the base Fortuner 4×2 G Diesel MT, all the way to P2,141,000 (RM179,211) for the range-topping Fortuner 4×4 2.8 V Diesel AT.
