UMW Toyota Motor recently rolled-out its first locally-assembled hybrid model in Malaysia at the company’s Assembly Service Sdn Bhd (ASSB) in Shah Alam.

The company has invested close to RM180 million from year 2010 until 2015 on this project, which includes the all-new 2.5-litre Toyota Camry Hybrid. It is expected that ASSB will be able to roll out close to 7,000 units of the Camry Hybrid CKD over the next 9 months with the set-up line in this plant.

We need to strive further to ensure a smooth production of Toyota Camry Hybrid CKD hereafter.” He also adds that the company would not compromise its quality standards and would work on cost competitiveness while providing shortest lead-time possible in vehicle delivery to the customers.

“The all-new Toyota Camry Hybrid CKD is ASSB’s first locally manufactured hybrid vehicle. Manufacturing the Camry Hybrid locally helps to contribute to the Malaysian economy by empowering the society we live in,” added Tan Sri Asmat Kamaluddin.

Drive is sent through an E-CVT transmission and on to the front wheels, with drivers able to choose from two drive modes; ECO and EV (full electric) mode. The all-new Toyota Camry Hybrid is expected to be competitively priced below RM200,000 when it is officially launched on 2nd April 2015.
