Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) to further develop the skills of the nation’s youth, in line with the country’s vision of increasing the number of skilled workers.
President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, Roland Folger said, “As a corporate citizen of this country, we are committed to contributing to the growth of the nation not only in terms of technological transfers, but also in the development of human capital. We see this partnership between Mercedes-Benz Malaysia and MOYS as a strategic investment and contribution that is in line with Malaysia’s vision of increasing the level of skills in high-technology industries. We hope that this MoU will also serve to strengthen industry partnership and pave the way for future collaboration in other areas.”
12 students from the National Youth Skills Training Institute (IKBN), aged between 19 to 25, will be chosen to undergo intensive product and system training at the Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Apprentice Training Centre. The training, which will take 3 months, will cover both theory and practical aspects, as well as training in maintenance repairs, electrical, troubleshooting and other selected fields. Student will also be able to acquire soft skills through retailing in a workshop environment.
Further more, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will also be incorporating the “Train-the-trainer” concept into the programme. Three selected IKBN trainers will be able to experience the latest automotive technologies and also the ethics and culture of today’s highly automated and customer-centre automotive industry.
Also present at the MoU was the Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Encik Khairy Jamaluddin, who said, “We need to have a competitive course in order to address the industry demands while enhancing students’ employability. This partnership with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is a culmination of our discussion in up-skilling Malaysian graduates with industry-recognized technical knowledge. It is my fervent hope that students who graduate from IKBN will ultimately be able to work in any industry-relevant workforce.”
Expected to start in October 2015, this programme will see its inaugural batch of students graduating by January 2016.
