At the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, Mazda showcased the CX-3 compact SUV which will arrive in our local shores in early December this year!
According to Bermaz Motor, the official importer and distributor of Mazda in Malaysia, the compact crossover and smaller sibling of the popular CX-5 will be coming in as a CBU import Japan, as the Mazda plant in Thailand has just commenced production at the end of last month. In anticipation of its arrival, Bermaz Motor has already started taking bookings for the CX-3 with an estimated price of RM135k.
In Japan, the all-new CX-3 is equipped exclusively with the SkyActiv-D 1.5-litre clean diesel engine. However, we were told that the Malaysian-specification model will be equipped with the SkyActiv-G 2.0 litre petrol engine that generates 150 hp and 204 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the Japanese AWD version, power is sent to the front wheels instead.
Do expect CX-3 to be well-equipped with all the bells and the whistles available in the top-spec Japanese model including 7-inch centre display with commander control and navigation system, leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shift, Head-up display, automatic air conditioning, keyless entry, rear-view camera, i-stop technology as well as blind-spot monitoring system, just to name a few.
Based on the fun and feisty Mazda 2 supermini, in terms of dimensions, the CX-3 has an overall length of 4,275 mm, a 1,550 mm of length and 2,570 mm wheelbase. The CX-3 also features a powerful stance and feeling of stability thanks to its 1,765 mm width and the positioning of the wheels at the extreme corners of the vehicle, resulting in front and rear tracks of 1,525 mm and 1,520 mm respectively. The luggage compartment measures 1,000 mm wide and 780 mm long with a capacity of 350-litres. In addition, it includes a two-position cargo board that can be adjusted in height to match the load being carried.
When it arrives on our local shores, the CX-3 is expected to rival a broad range of other compact crossovers in the market including the Honda HR-V – which is hugely popular among Malaysians, Ford EcoSport and the Mitsubishi ASX.
