Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has just unveiled the much-awaited Hyundai Veloster Turbo to our local market, after much teasing and waiting. In fact, the car was first teased way back at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show, back in 2013.
The Hyundai Veloster Turbo that we’re getting, is powered by a 1.6-litre T-GDI engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger, which produces a total of 186 PS and 265 Nm of twist from 1,500 rpm till 4,500 rpm, while the maximum power comes in at 5,500 rpm. The only transmission choice offered here is a 7-speed Hyundai-developed dual-clutch automatic transmission. From standstill, the Veloster Turbo can crack to 100 km/h in just 8 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 214 km/h.

From the exterior, the Hyundai Veloster Turbo keeps the unique 1+2 door layout, and has been added with HID projector headlights with LED daytime running lights. The front grille has also been revised on the Veloster Turbo, and the rear lights has been changed. Coupled with the newly redesigned rear end and centre mounted rear exhaust, the Veloster Turbo certainly looks different from the regular Veloster. Both the regular Veloster and Veloster Turbo gets 18-inch alloy wheels, the latter has a different design.
Inside, similar to the regular Veloster, the turbo variant gets the same Supervision Gauge Cluster, keyless entry with push start button, 60:40 split folding rear seats, 8 speaker premium sound system and a panorama sunroof. Those wanting a sportier image can choose the Veloster Turbo Sport variant, which adds a new set of leather seats with orange side stitches and racing decals on the outside.
Safety wise, the Veloster Turbo comes with a total of 6 airbags and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), which is in charge of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and the Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS). Apart from that, ABS and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) is also standard on the Veloster Turbo.
A total of five body colours are available, ranging from Storm Trooper (White), Young Gun (Matte Black), Phantom Black, Sunflower (Yellow) and Veloster Red. The Hyundai Veloster Turbo comes fully imported from Hyundai’s manufacturing plant in Ulsan, South Korea. As mentioned earlier, the Veloster Turbo will come in 2 variants, namely the Veloster Turbo, which retails for RM148,118.55 (OTR with GST w/o insurance) and the Veloster Turbo Sport, which retails for RM151,745.87 (OTR with GST w/o insurance). Buyers are backed with a 5-year or 300,000 km (whichever comes first) extended warranty. Apart from that, HSDM is also offering a 24-hour road assist service, for new and existing Hyundai vehicles.
