Hyundai has officially unveiled the all-new Elantra for the South Korean market. In its home market, the Hyundai Elantra is marketed as the Hyundai Avante.
Outside, the all-new Hyundai Elantra now features a more matured Fluidic Sculpture design, which Hyundai calls it the “Modern Premium” design language. Gone are the swooping lines of the previous generation Elantra, now replaced with simpler design which frankly, looks so much better. A large single-frame hexagonal grille is flanked by slim and sporty headlights up front, while the rear end continues the Elantra’s familiarity, but with some minor revisions. The tail lights are more angular, versus the curvy lights on the predecessor.
“The Elantra has set forth new standards for global compact-size sedans in each generation. With the pursuit to achieve world’s best technology, the newly introduced All-new Elantra was developed with concerted efforts of all our employees at Hyundai Motor,” said Woong-Chul Yang, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Center.
Hyundai continues to push the envelope with the all-new Elantra, as it features numerous class-leading features, like an Integrated Memory Seat (IMS), Smart Trunk allows easy loading as it opens automatically when the Smart key-holder approaches. In addition, new class-leading suite of safety technologies includes Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), High Beam Assist (HBA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
The Koreans will get three engine choices, namely a 1.6-litre diesel VGT, 1.6-litre GDi and a 2.0-litre MPi, which interestingly runs on the Atkinson cycle. A 6-speed automatic, 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT is offered to customers, though the DCT is reserved only for the diesel powertrain.
Hyundai’s production plant will be focusing on domestic sales first, so right-hand drive variants will have to wait for the time being.
