Honda has just unveiled their facelifted CR-V, and also introduced a new variant to their lineup. This time around, they have introduced a new 2.0-litre 2WD variant, which complements the existing 2.0-litre 4WD and 2.4-litre 4WD.
Mr. Yoichiro Ueno, Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer said, “This success was made possible with the support and trust in the brand from Malaysian customers.Three years ago, Honda Malaysia set a mid-term strategy to elevate our business to 100,000 units and started our preparation for enhancing the competitiveness of our products, increasing production capacity and expanding our dealer network.”
The new 2.0-litre 2WD variant sports the same hardware as the 2.0-litre 4WD engine which is paired to a 5-speed automatic gearbox. The biggest benefit is that the 2WD variant will offer better fuel efficiency over its 4WD brethren. The powertrain on both 4WD variant remains identical to their pre-facelift sibling, which means that the 2.0-litre variant has 155 PS and 190 Nm of torque, while the 2.4-litre variant has 190 PS and 222 Nm of torque.
Apart from the new 2WD variant, the Honda CR-V also get a minor facelift, both inside and outside. Up front, all CR-V variants now sport LED daytime running lights mated to a newly designed front bumper. The rear end also gets a makeover, with the rear foglights moving a bit higher up, while the rear light cluster get slightly revised. The rear bumper also gets revised.
Moving onto the interior, it remains mostly similar to the pre-facelift model, but all variants are now equipped with the ECON Mode Switch Button for better fuel efficiency. Also standard across the range is the Smart Entry with Push-Start button, 8-way driver power seats and the One-Motion rear foldable seats. The interior trim also gets slightly revised compared to the pre-facelift model.
On the safety front, the new facelifted Honda CR-V now comes with 4 airbags as standard, with the range-topping 2.4-litre featuring a total of 6 airbags. Apart from the airbag count, the Honda CR-V also comes with Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Emergency Stop Signal, Hill Start Assist and the usual ABS, EBD and Brake Assist. ASEAN NCAP has awarded the Honda CR-V with the maximum of 5 stars for its crash test worthiness.
What’s new for the 2.4-litre variant is the Honda LaneWatch. This improves the driver’s view of the passenger-side traffic, and aids the driver in addition to the side mirror. This has been carried over from the Honda Accord thanks to its positive feedback.
Mr Ueno also said, “We are confident that the New CR-V will meet the needs of current and new SUV owners and we believe it will continue to lead the SUV market segment and enable Honda to achieve our challenging sales target this year.”
