Here’s some exciting news for Civic enthusiasts, Honda is expecting to release its 1.5-litre turbo engine paired with 6-speed manual transmission in the Honda Civic for its 2017 MY!
The photo below was obtained by CivicX forums from Honda parts manufacturer. It reveals that Honda has been planning for the 1.5 turbo engine for 2016 MY, but it has been delayed till 2017 for unknown reasons. Currently, the Civic 1.5 turbo comes only with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) option.
According to the information, the turbo variant will get the manual after the 2016 Civic Coupe launches in March 2016 and may coincide with the debut of the 2017 Civic Si model, but it is definitely not the Si variant.
The 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the current Civic is capable of developing 174 bhp and 219 Nm of torque, mated to a ‘unique CVT’. Meanwhile, the base unit for the new Civic is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, churning out 158 bhp and 186 Nm of torque. It is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT.
