Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said that the price of RON95 might be lowered, but only if the price per barrel of crude oil hovered between RM234 and RM251.
He was also quoted, “I will make a recommendation to the Fiscal Policy Committee to reduce the price of RON95 petrol if the price of global crude oil continues to drop. I will also propose that no sales tax be imposed on the purchase of RON95 when its price is reduced in the future.”
According to the News Straits Times, he was responding to questions regarding the government’s fuel pricing plan since global crude oil prices are at a 4-year low, hovering now at RM268 a barrel.
“We would like to see whether the prices of goods will also go down if the government decided to reduce the RON95 petrol price,” he added. Perhaps we could be seeing cheaper prices for our RON95 in a foreseeable future? We certainly do hope so.
