Today marks an important milestone in the Malaysian exotic hypercar market as Naza Swedish Motors Sdn Bhd has opened the doors to the very first Koenigsegg showroom in Malaysia! This is also in conjunction with the arrival of the first Koenigsegg Agera S ever to enter our local market.
Present at launch were Joint Group Executive Chairman NAZA Group of Companies, Datuk Wira Hj SM Faisal Tan Sri Nasimuddin, Founder of Koenigsegg himself, Mr. Christian Von Koenigsegg, Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia, His Excellency Mr Bengt G.Carlsson as well as Head of Sales of Koenigsegg, Andreas Petre’.
Based in Sweden, Koenigsegg, which was established in 1994, has over 15 franchisees worldwide and today, Naza Swedish Motors has joined the ranks of those and sealed a milestone deal. In penning the distributorship deal with Koenigsegg Automotive AB late last year, Datuk Wira Hj SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin became the world’s youngest entrepreneur to secure a franchisee agreement for the exotic Swedish brand in two nations; Malaysia and Indonesia simultaneously.
Back to the hypercar, in case you’re wondering what Agera means, it is actually a Swedish word meaning “to take action”. It is also short for the ancient Greek word Ageratos which means “ageless”.
The 2014 Agera S was created specifically for markets where E85 fuel is unavailable, catering to our local market. Despite not running on high-octane biofuel, Koenigsegg still managed to extract an amazing 1100Nm of torque and a full 1030hp from the 5-litre Bi-turbo V8 when run on 98 octane RON or 93 octane DIN. This powertrain is mounted in a mid-engine position in a monocoque chassis built from carbon fibre but with aluminum honeycomb filling.
When coupled to a 7-speed gearbox with dual clutch system, this Swedish hypercar is capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h in less than 3 seconds, 0-200 km/h in just 7.8 seconds with top speed rated at a well over 400km/h – we bet your car can’t do that. If it can, please call us, now.
The Agera S is also capable of travelling from 0-300km/h and back to 0 km/h in just under 22 seconds! The short braking time is made possible by 6 ceramic pistons 392x40mm ventilated and drilled ceramic discs at the front and 4-piston calipers with 380x34mm discs at the back operating via a performance-biased, lightweight ABS system.
Despite its straight line prowess, the Agera S is still able to return 14.7-litre/100km on a combined cycle, which translates to more than 500km of mileage on its 80-litre fuel tank, claimed of course.
Koenigsegg differs from other low volume hypercar manufacturers by the fact that the company actually develops and produces its own engines in-house. Most observers and/or competitors consider this to be impossible, or way too expensive to even consider. Koenigsegg has proved them wrong, year after year. And perhaps that’s why this car costs as much as it does.
Not only are the engines developed in-house, they also have many class-leading characteristics. They are the lightest and most compact hypercar engines in the world, weighing just 197kg while transmission weighs a mere 81kg. These coupled with the lightweight pre-impregnated carbon fibre/Kevlar body add up to a firm kerb weight of 1,415kg.
The interior of the Agera S is also unique. The only materials you’ll find inside the Agera S are aluminium, carbon fibre, precious metals, alcantara and aniline leather. For example, the Koenigsegg Ghost light, which makes solid aluminium buttons gleam with LED powered icons that appear as if out of nowhere. The illumination shines through the billet aluminium buttons and surfaces by way of almost invisible micro holes, creating excellent visibility of the symbols as well as a very clean and stylish appearance that is framed by an all-new carbon fibre centre console and tunnel assembly.
We’re wondering who’ll be the first lucky buyer to own the Agera S in Malaysia for a cool RM5 million without duties and taxes. Nonetheless, check out our live gallery of the hypercar below.
